First established in 1970, the original farm was in dairying before converting to what is now the largest producer of Group One winners in New Zealand. Oaks winners, Derby winners, and numerous Champions have been bred and raised on Chequers lush grasslands.
In 2010 brothers Mark Fraser- Campin and Chris Campin ushered in a dynamic new era for Chequers. Taking over the reins from their highly successful father, Jim, they purchased Battle Paint to stand alongside Leading Sire Deputy Governor.
Chequers Stud, the home base, runs in combination with Domino Park(NZ) its agistment farm of an additional 360 acres of rolling pasture. This leaves the main farm free over the winter period to enable the pastures to recover and with meticulous pasture management in progress, the famous 'clean green' is a reality when mares and foals start arriving in August for the coming breeding season. As the seasons change and foals need to be weaned, the yearling sale preparations commence and the rotation of stock begins another phase of the season.
Chequers Stud is committed to continuing a proud legacy of producing top quality athletes. This exciting new phase for the Campin family combines the best in horsemanship, pasture management and quality client services. We look forward to making your racing and breeding dreams a reality.
